This project started kind of slow for me, but I think it's starting to kick off now! At the very beginning of the week, I had some thumbnail sketches for this project but no actual start, because I hadn't bought materials. On the Monday before I had class, I went out to get everything I needed and I actually spray painted and stenciled the story that I wanted to tell on my board before I even went to school. That was a pretty interesting new process for me because I'd never used spray paint before, so I did a lot of fiddling with how to get my stencils to stay down and how to cover up the rest of the wood from overspray each time, but I think I got pretty good at it and I'm happy with my final product. It's a little messy, but I think that that adds to the factory vibe. The only problem is that the tape did occasionally peel up some of the wood, which I'm okay with for now since it adds texture but which could be more problematic later.
Since then I've just been layering on drywall compound, which is the same as my last project except for the fact that I'm putting it on a little thicker and with a lot more texture. I really like how it looks, but I am also seeing some cracking, which is pretty worrying. I think if I use this medium again I'd like to try putting it on thinner but with the same amount of texture. With the rest of my studio days I'd like to put in some contour lines, although I think I put too many last time so I'm trying very hard not to repeat that this time, and also maybe get some more interesting line quality in some spots.
