My process for this project is going reasonably well. Right now I'm working on wood in drywall compound, which is a significant change from the acrylic paint that I was working in previously. The drywall compound is a lot thicker than paint, which on the one hand is exciting because it has a lot more potential to incorporate texture (and hopefully make up for the fact that there's a little bit less contrast in color in this piece than in my paintings), but on the other hand makes it a lot harder to maneuver, especially for contour lines. Last studio day I started trying to mask off sections of the wood with tape to get cleaner, thinner contour lines more efficiently with the drywall compound, which so far has been really promising. I think that this process definitely has a lot of potential, but I also think that with more practice (and definitely a lot of tape) I could probably get it to be more efficient.
