This week I saw the textile artist Noelani Jones's artist talk. One thing about her art that was really interesting to me was how long it might take to make art, given that weaving and textiles are usually very time-consuming. In her talk she mentioned that it takes her about an hour to weave about a yard of fabric, which sounds pretty incredibly fast to me. She also mentioned combining pieces that she's already made with pieces made specifically for a show to fill such large spaces with her work. That makes me wonder if she reuses the same piece in different shows and contexts to make other pieces. I feel like textiles, especially, would be really interesting to use for that, because it would almost be like combining stories and putting together pieces in different ways to say different things. She also made a brief mention of working seasonally because of her naturally sourced materials, so I wonder how that works and what she means by that.
